Öhlins at Vines Caterham Motorrad.

Öhlins supplied and fitted to all BMW Motorrad models.

Please call our parts dept at Vines Caterham Motorrad on 01883 349433 with your requirements.

Ever since starting out in 1976, the focus for Öhlins Racing AB has been on becoming the obvious choice for those who want a shock absorber that goes beyond the run-of-the-mill shock absorbers, and that surpasses the highest of standards.

Everyone realises that different shock absorbers are needed for motocross and touring. However, at Öhlins Racing AB we go much further than that. We have developed specially designed shock absorbers for enduro, supermotard, dual sport, cruiser, sport, hypersport and racing as well. Every shock absorber is a technically advanced product with respect to performance, precision, quality, endurance, safety and reliability. This is one of the key factors that lie behind all of the successes that our shock absorbers are constantly achieving on the race tracks.

Another key factor is our continuous development process. We currently have a long list of patented solutions for technical applications and improved functions. Solutions that will benefit you, regardless of whether you ride a motorcross or a touring motorcycle. Our strong cooperation’s with elite racing teams in the MotoGP and WSB gives us tremendous opportunities to test new technology that sooner or later will end up in our aftermarket assortment. High-end racing is not an isolated business area that is separated from our aftermarket program – racing is just the ultimate challenge to see if our products is good enough for all of our private customers around the world.

It is therefore no coincidence that more and more “ordinary” motorcyclists – who think only the best is good enough – are discovering that our shock absorbers keep the same high standard for their motorcycles as they do for the world’s elite.

BMW Off Road Skills

Take to the dirt with Leon Haslam and BMW Off Road Skills

World of BMW is offering the exclusive opportunity to learn to ride off-road with BMW Motorrad Motorsports’ World Superbike racer Leon Haslam on 24-25 July 2011.

Leon will be assisting Chief Instructor Simon Pavey at BMW Off Road Skills a few days before he heads to Silverstone for the British round of the World Superbike Championship. Just 28 lucky riders will be able to book a place on this one-of-a-kind course.

The places available on this course cater for all off-road abilities from novice to expert. With a well-structured syllabus and friendly, expert instructors, a fleet of BMW adventure sports bikes and the stunning 4,000-acre Walters Arena in the Brecon Beacons to learn in, BMW Off Road Skills is the premier enduro and adventure bike riding and training experience.

Leon Haslam said: “I started my racing career in motocross before switching to track bikes in 1997, but I love riding off-road. It’s a fantastic way to keep fit and have fun. Earlier this year my team mate Troy Corser and I did an off-road adventure near Phillip Island riding R 1200 GSs and F 800 GSs and I had a great time. I can’t wait to get back on an adventure sports bike, pick up some tips from Simon and hopefully pass on some of my own experience to the riders who join us there. Having taught with my dad at his race school in the past, I hope I can be of some help!”

Simon Pavey said: “We’re very excited to have Leon coming to the school. He’s a perfect illustration of how riding off-road keeps you in good shape and helps build your confidence on the road and track. Whether you’re coming to ride with us for the first time, or you’re returning to take on our most advanced off-road course, this is the perfect opportunity to come and ride with BMW’s World Superbike rider Leon Haslam.”

The price of the BMW Off Road Skills two-day Level One to Three course is £479. This includes two days instruction, motorcycle hire, third party insurance, fuel, two lunches and one evening meal, refreshments and a certificate of completion. It does not include accommodation or evening drinks.

All participants must be over the age of 21 and have a full UK, EU or International motorcycle licence. Places are limited so riders should book soon to avoid missing out on this exclusive course.

For more information about the World of BMW activities and events visit www.worldofbmw.com. To book a place on the event on 24-25 July with Leon Haslam, you will need to log in or register on the www.offroadskills.com website - click here for a direct link.

WSBK Race Report Aragon, Spain.

2011 Superbike World Championship race report from Aragon, Spain
Today’s two World Superbike races from Aragon circuit in north-eastern Spain proved to be a test of character for both BMW Motorrad Motorsport riders, as they bravely battled through the pain barrier to post top ten finishes in race one. Despite both carrying injuries sustained at the previous round just last weekend, the tough pair gave 100 per cent in their attempts to score as many championship points as possible.

Having struggled at the physically demanding circuit throughout qualifying, both Haslam and Corser were forced to start race one down on the fourth row of the grid, in 14th and 16th places respectively. But this didn’t stop them from battling their way into the top 10 by half race distance and joining BMW Motorrad Italia’s Ayrton Badovini – who had qualified on the second row – in the fight for eighth place.

By the end of the 20-lap first race, it was Badovini who held onto eighth, with Haslam edging out his team-mate for ninth, and Corser rounding out the top 10.

In race two, the unlucky Corser was involved in a collision with another rider at the end of the long back straight, where riders have to brake hard from around 320 km/h for a tight, first-gear hairpin. Already riding with significant bruising to the coccyx and a cracked rib, the collision happened at the end of the first lap and Troy has suffered a suspected breakage of the ulna and radius bones in his forearm. He will fly to London for further treatment.

This left Haslam and Badovini in the fight to be the highest-placed S 1000 RR rider in the final WSBK race of the day, and as it turned out, the pair spent most of the race actually battling with each other. In the end, it was Haslam who came out on top, beating Badovini into ninth place by half a second and cementing sixth place in the championship standings, while Badovini’s recent good form moves him into the top 10 in the overall points.

There are now three weeks before the next WSBK round at Brno in the Czech Republic, which should give Haslam a chance to recover from the injuries he is carrying. Furthermore, the Brno round should also see the return of James Toseland to the Superbike World Championship on the RR for BMW Motorrad Italia.

Leon Haslam: “It has been another tough weekend for us. In race one I didn’t get a good start and I left myself with a lot of work to do. I felt like I had the pace to run with the second group of riders who were fighting for fourth, but the mistake on lap one meant I wasn’t able to make bridge the gap. However, I worked hard, made up some places and finished the race in ninth. In race two I got a better start – the start I was hoping for in race one – but we’d opted for a softer tyre and I didn’t have the same level of grip, although I had a good battle with Ayrton. I think we learnt a lot from following him and from the data we collected. We just have to go through the data now and get ready for the next one.”

Troy Corser: “I braked late at the end of the back straight and passed two other riders but I overshot the corner and turned in late. I saw Maxime Berger coming. I could see that his rear wheel was off the ground when he was braking and he just went straight into me. I am not blaming him. It was just unlucky. But I am happy that I only suffered a broken arm after the injuries I have been carrying recently. I do not have any bruises, nothing is sore and my neck is fine.”

Ayrton Badovini: “We are happy with the weekend on a whole. We are getting faster all the time and learning a lot with every session. We were able to run consistently in the top ten and we finished both races with solid results. I am happy because I am learning and improving with every race and I am building confidence with the bike. I am really looking forward to the next race.”

Bernhard Gobmeier (BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director): “We have to forget this weekend as soon as possible. From the first practice session on it did not work so well for us and the race results are not as good as we hoped for. But on a weekend like this, results are secondary. After Troy’s heavy crash all that matters is now that he recovers from his injuries and returns to full fitness as soon as possible. We will support Troy during his recovery as much as we can. After two back-to-back-races we now have two weekends without racing before we go to Brno. The whole team has worked really hard and I want to thank all of them for that.”

BMW Motorrad Scotland

Opportunity Knocks for Buildbase BMW Motorrad in Scotland
The Buildbase BMW Motorrad team are heading north of the border for the Knockhill round of the British Superbike Championship this weekend.

After their recent success at Thruxton – two BSB-EVO wins and a Superstock 1000 victory – the team are in high spirits. BSB-EVO racer Barry Burrell is now third in the class while Richard Cooper, the team’s Superstock 1000 rider, currently sits in fourth place in the championship.

With new camshafts machined and installed in the team’s two Superbikes, John Laverty and Ian Lowry’s BMW S 1000 RRs were the fastest bikes through the speed traps at Thruxton.

Stuart Hicken, team principal, said: “We had a very good weekend at a very wet Thruxton, taking three race wins. Considering it’s currently raining at Knockhill and it’s predicted to be a wet weekend, our riders are feeling quite confident.

“Barry and Richard’s wins were a great boost for the team, while the improved power of the S 1000 RR Superbikes was welcomed by John and Ian, who had the fastest bikes at Thruxton.

"We learnt a great deal about the chassis setup and balance of the bikes at Thruxton and we can put that into practice at Knockhill.. We’ll be aiming for even more points and podium finishes at the only Scottish round of the Championship.”

Fans can now show their support for the team with a range of Buildbase BMW Motorrad fanwear available from Clinton Enterprises starting at just £10. Fanwear can be purchased at each round of the BSB Championship or ordered online here.

Free practice is held on Friday, qualifying starts on Saturday and the racing will be broadcast live on British Eurosport 2 on Sunday.
