Vines Limited has franchise BMW, MINI and Motorrad Centres based in Gatwick, Guildford and Redhill. Vines management requested staff, family, customers and friends to nominate local charities for consideration when choosing their Centres’ charities of focus for 2015.

Vines of Redhill BMW and MINI are delighted to announce that for a second year running their support will aid “Us In A Bus”. Us In A Bus is a registered charity working with people who are often isolated and can find communicating with the world (and the people in it) a challenge. Their clients are people with profound learning disabilities and complex needs, they often also have sensory and physical disabilities that make life difficult. To find out how they work with their clients and what work they do in the local community please visit www.usinabus.org.uk Vines of Redhill’s aim is to help Us In A Bus towards wish list items, which they are unable to currently fund and by doing so assist them to either upgrade their equipment or enhance their offering to their clients; this will be done through various charity initiatives and raffles throughout the year.

Vines of Guildford BMW, MINI and Motorrad are proud to support two young boys towards their dreams of walking for the very first time:

Louie is a cheeky chappy with a wicked sense of humour. Louie was born 8 weeks prematurely on the 26th July 2012 and spent his first 3 weeks of his life in SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit). Over the next few months and after many doctor appointments, little Louie at the tender age of 18 months old was confirmed to have Cerebral Palsy. Sadly there is no cure for Cerebral Palsy but there is hope. The goal is to raise £80,000 to enable his parents to take Louie to America to undergo surgery called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy). This will permanently reduce the stiffness in his legs, enabling him to walk independently. SDR is not a cure by any means, but is a huge step on the road towards independence. To find out more about Louie’s story visit his Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/footstepsforlouie Vines of Guildford look to raise awareness for Louie’s operation through branding and other charity initiatives such as encouraging family, staff and customers to participate in their Spinathon at David Lloyd Woking on 31st January.

Little Asher was born 10 week early with 3 holes in his heart. He had multiple operations to correct this and bravely fought back to good health. However at 8 months old Asher was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. Spastic cerebral palsy is where the muscles are stiff and rigid in one or more limbs in Ashers case quadriplegic means that all four limbs are affected. Now at 2 years old Asher is a happy, smiley young boy who loves to engage with everyone around him however he is unable to sit up, roll over, stand, walk or feed himself properly. Asher would benefit greatly from some intense physio sessions to try and bring on his development. There are also many pieces of equipment that would help Asher to develop further and allow him to enjoy life to the full. Their current aim is to raise enough money for Asher to have a weeks intensive Physio at the Bobath Centrehttp://www.bobath.org.uk/ it is a crucial time in Ashers development and so this would be a huge boost for him. To find out more about Asher visit his Just Giving Page www.justgiving.com/enablingasher Through planned charity activities such as a charity golf day and donation requests at an upcoming customer and staff events, Vines of Guildford aims to help contribute towards Asher’s fundraising initiative for his treatment.

Vines of Gatwick BMW and MINI are happy to continue their support to Golden Lion Children’s Trust. A charity dedicated to providing hope, help and happiness to children with special needs and disadvantaged young people. The Trust maintains its links with Gatwick Airport, where the roots of the Trust began, but can reach out to a much wider field thanks to the many supporters and volunteers we have. The charity has remained independent of any other charitable institutions and is completely self-financing. The Golden Lion Children’s Trust also remains independent of any regular corporate sponsorship although the generosity and support of companies large and small mainly from around Gatwick Airport and from the South of England remain the major source of their funding. The Golden Lion Children’s Trust differs from many other charities in so much as they never make donations of money to specific individuals or organisations. Their “donations” consist of the provision of services, goods and more usually activities for the children. To look at all the good work done by Golden Lion Children’s Trust, have a look at their website www.glct.org.ukk . With Vines of Gatwick continued focus on raising funds for the charity through golf day silent auctions, activity funding and other projects they look to help towards as many initiatives as possible for the year to come.

Vines Group looks to make a difference to these charities over the course of the year and encourage the local community to support these initiatives if you are in a position to do so. Any contribution big or small, through time or money, we know that support no matter what shape or form will help these charities towards their goals.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7729627066495490591.post-90900703021482738532015-01-26T11:45:00.001+00:002015-01-26T11:45:25.478+00:00S 1000 XR and F 800 R.BMW Motorrad UK has announced pricing and model specifications for the 2015 S 1000 XR and F 800 R.

The new F 800 R is the latest in the line of characterful parallel twin-cylinder motorcycles from BMW Motorrad. Consistent development of its all-round qualities has ensured the dynamic roadster is ready to delight owners with its sporty performance, agile handling and even greater versatility – all wrapped up in a dynamic package.

Power is sourced, as before, from a liquid-cooled four-valve twin-cylinder engine with 798 cc displacement. With output increasing to 66 kW (90 hp) at 8,000 rpm (up from 64 kW (87 hp) at 8,000 rpm) and shorter ratios for first and second gear, the parallel twin offers even greater sprinting ability while retaining the impressive pulling power, instantaneous responses and low fuel consumption familiar from the predecessor model. Peak torque remains 86 Nm (63 lb-ft) at 5,800 rpm.

The engaging riding experience on board the F 800 R is further enhanced by new suspension components and optimised ergonomics. For example, an upside-down fork now takes care of front suspension duties, while a hydraulic double-disc brake with radial brake callipers provides fade-resistant stopping power. A new seat fixed lower down (at 790 mm instead of the previous 800 mm), combined with new handlebars and rider foot pegs, creates even better ergonomics for the rider.

The design of the F 800 R – which is also pitched at novice riders – also provides a visual showcase for that extra rider engagement. With its newly designed fairings, radiator shields, front mudguard and wheels, plus a new range of colours, the sporty roadster cuts an extremely dynamic figure. The now symmetrical main headlight also gives it a distinctive “face”.

In keeping with the “Safety 360°” principle, the new F 800 R is fitted with ABS as standard. It can also be ordered with optional systems such as ASC (Automatic Stability Control) and ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), ensuring it sets a new benchmark in the segment in terms of its safety performance and all-round qualities.

The new features of the BMW F 800 R:

Higher output than its predecessor – 66 kW (90 hp) at 8,000 rpm (previously: 64 kW (87 hp) at 8,000 rpm).

Modified ratios for first and second gear.

New body features with an even more dynamic design.

New colours.

Symmetrical main headlight arrangement.

Upside-down fork.

Radial front brake callipers.

Lighter wheels with dynamic design.

Rider foot pegs.

Seat height reduced to 790 mm (previously 800 mm).

New tapered aluminium handlebars.

ASC (Automatic Stability Control) – optional / special accessory.

ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) – optional.

Output reduced to 35 kW (48 hp) – special accessory / optional.

The BMW S 1000 XR – all good things come in fours.

Following on from the S 1000 RR and HP4 superbikes as well as the S 1000 R roadster, BMW Motorrad is now unveiling the fourth member in the BMW Motorrad line-up of high-power motorcycles with straight-four-cylinder engines and a distinctly sporty bias. Building on the tantalising and unique mix of innovative technology, performance and safety already inherent to the existing models in this series, BMW Motorrad has taken the next step by bringing out the S 1000 XR, which offers this repertoire of core characteristics in a brand-new blend dubbed “adventure sport”. This encompasses dynamic touring qualities, sporty performance and high levels of comfort as well as outstanding everyday usability. In short, the new S 1000 XR serves up its own individual mix of sporting and touring flair at the same time as injecting a generous dose of emotion.
Straight-four-cylinder engine for punchy adventure sport performance.

The straight-four-cylinder engine on the new BMW S 1000 XR is basically derived from the S 1000 R roadster. It has an output of 118 kW (160 hp) at 11,000 rpm and generates maximum torque of 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) at 9,250 rpm. This power unit produces torque in abundance, making it ideal for providing the punchy response at low and medium revs that riders seek when powering along country roads or carrying a passenger. The straight-four-cylinder unit combines tremendous pulling power and exhilarating acceleration with a high peak output, while offering the rider a usable rev range that spans over 10,000 rpm. This makes it just as adept at highly pleasurable touring as it is at sporty rides down winding country roads or holiday trips complete with passenger and luggage.

Two riding modes and ASC as standard as well as the option of Pro riding modes including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and ABS Pro.

To enable the riding characteristics to be adapted to the prevailing road conditions as effectively as possible, the new S 1000 XR already comes with the “Rain” and “Road” riding modes as standard. The standard-fit Automatic Stability Control (ASC) ensures a high standard of riding safety by optimising traction. The new S 1000 XR can be equipped ex-works with the Pro riding modes option, which includes the additional riding modes “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” along with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and ABS Pro.

Innovative chassis with a new frame and Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) as an option.

The chassis of the new S 1000 XR adventure sport bike is every bit as impressive as the ferocious power delivery of the four-in-line engine. Based on this model series’ existing design, it employs an aluminium-alloy perimeter frame in which the engine forms part of the load-bearing structure. Wheel suspension at the front and rear is handled by an adjustable upside-down fork and a double-sided swing arm with adjustable central spring strut respectively. The chassis geometry has been completely redefined in order to cater to the specific requirements of the XR. When fitted with the optional electronically controlled suspension system BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), meanwhile, the new S 1000 XR takes riding safety, performance and comfort to even greater heights, while also promising adventure sport at its very finest.

ABS Pro available ex-works as part of the Pro riding modes option for even greater safety when braking in a banked position.

Whereas the standard ABS systems from BMW Motorrad to date have ensured an excellent standard of safety when braking while moving in a straight line, the optionally available ABS Pro feature now goes a step further to make braking while cornering safer as well by enabling ABS-assisted braking in a banked position. In such situations, ABS Pro prevents the wheels from locking up even when the brakes are applied sharply. This reduces abrupt changes in steering force, especially in response to panic braking, and thereby limits any undesirable righting of the bike. ABS Pro offers riders the benefit of increased braking and riding stability combined with optimum stopping power, even in corners.

The new S 1000 XR – style and function for both sport and adventuring.

The new BMW S 1000 XR fuses the characters and strengths of the BMW Motorrad GS, Touring and Sport models on a visual level as well to create a new breed of motorcycle tagged “adventure sport”. This is clearly mirrored in every design element and combines with the flawless ergonomics, ingenious wind and weather protection as well as the 20 – 30 mm increase in spring travel and greater ground clearance to make an impressive statement. Whether it’s mountain passes, a tour of the countryside, motorway riding or even rough sections of road – the new S 1000 XR handles it all with aplomb.

The new BMW S 1000 RR – the ultimate sports companion.

The new BMW S 1000 RR is receiving its world premiere at the Intermot 2014 motorcycle fair. With refined torque delivery and peak torque of 113 Nm (83 lb-ft), an increase in engine output of 4 kW (6 hp) to 146 kW (199 hp), plus a reduction in weight of 4 kg to 204 kg with a full tank of fuel and Race ABS (making allowances for equipment), the superbike that first debuted in 2009 is entering a new generation. Besides eliciting even sharper performance from the new S 1000 RR, particular attention was also paid to designing the bike to be even more rider-friendly. Whether it is used for everyday riding, flitting through bends on country roads or being put through its paces on the race track – the new S 1000 RR excels in every respect.

Optimised drivetrain for even greater performance and rideability.

The enhanced performance of the new RR in terms of drive power can be attributed to the re-engineered cylinder head with new duct geometry, new intake camshaft and even lighter intake valves. Furthermore, an airbox with a modified capacity combines with an intake system with shorter intake lengths to make mixture preparation more effective than ever and give the new S 1000 RR added punch. A further key contributing factor to the improvement in power and torque characteristics is the new exhaust system, which now dispenses with a front silencer and weighs around 3 kg lighter. Rideability and response from standstill both benefit from an increase in torque upwards of approx. 5,000 rpm, a more linear torque curve, as well as a wide torque plateau that allows the rider to summon up almost maximum pulling power between 9,500 (112 Nm) and 12,000 rpm (113 Nm / 83 lb-ft).

New frame structure and chassis geometry for superior riding precision and even better handling. Further improved Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) from the HP4 as an ex-works option.

Chassis-wise, the new RR has been honed with the introduction of a new, lighter frame structure offering an optimised blend of rigidity and flexibility. Together with the optimised chassis geometry featuring redefined values for the steering head angle, wheel castor, wheelbase and swingarm pivot point, it promises even better handling, increased traction and unequivocal feedback, particularly when riding at the limit. The tasks of wheel suspension and damping continue to be performed by fully adjustable spring elements, but with modified negative spring travel for more banking clearance and greater agility. As a factory-fitted option, the new S 1000 RR can also be specified with the new improved version of the electronically controlled Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) suspension – already familiar from the HP4 – that provides the basis for a chassis set-up with absolutely no compromises.

Three riding modes as standard, plus two more available for fine-tuned adjustment by opting for the Pro riding mode feature.

To enable optimum adaptation to the prevailing riding conditions, the new RR bike already comes with three riding modes as standard: “Rain”, “Sport” and “Race”. If the Pro riding mode option is selected, these can be supplemented by the two additional modes “Slick” and “User”. The Pro riding mode option also features Launch Control for flawless racing starts as well as the programmable pit-lane speed limiter for sticking exactly to the pit-lane speed limit. When this feature is activated, it has the additional effect of producing the impressive soundtrack familiar from the world of motorcycle racing. The HP Gear Shift Assist Pro, which can likewise be ordered as an ex-works option, enables lightning-fast clutchless upshifting and downshifting.

Refined control system set-up. Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) with precision calibration in seven +/- steps.

The new RR already leaves the factory with Race ABS (semi-integral) as well as Automatic Stability Control (ASC) included as standard. In conjunction with the optional Pro riding mode feature, it can be equipped with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) including banking sensor and precision calibration. All control systems have been retuned and further improved in terms of their control precision and characteristics.

First ever superbike with cruise control (optional). Innovative instrument cluster design, new electrical system and lighter battery.

For the first time, the RR is now also available with an electronic speed control for staying within the current speed limits (ex-works option).

The multifunctional instrument cluster comprises a new dial for the analogue rev counter as well as a redesigned LCD display offering a far greater array of functions.

The new S 1000 RR furthermore features a new electrical system and a more powerful sensor box, along with a smaller battery weighing around 1 kg less.

Design that is more dynamic than ever with stunning colour schemes.

Last, but by no means least, there is the completely restyled bodywork that speaks an even more dynamic design language. The principle of the asymmetric headlight arrangement on the outgoing model has been retained as a characteristic distinguishing feature, yet the headlights have been repositioned and restyled to ensure that the new RR is recognisable as “new” at first glance. The dynamic design with its sporty, aggressive feel is given further impact by colour schemes with three very individual characters: Racing Red / Light White, Black Storm metallic and the BMW Motorsport colours.

BMW Motorrad awaits the new 2015 season with joyful anticipation.

Heading the field is the GS helmet, a pure-bred enduro helmet with safety features also found in the professional sphere. Matching it are the GS enduro goggles, which are perfectly tailored to the outstanding ventilation system of the GS helmet.

This time round, however, the main focus of the BMW Motorrad Rider’s Equipment range for the upcoming season are the suits. The bandwidth of the collection stretches from summery biking gear for urban riding to high-end material designed as a dependable partner all the way to the limit.

The TourShell suit is an all-rounder for every season of the year, making it highly popular among riders of either gender. This year the latest-generation NP2 protectors are also on board. In pole position with its seamless professional safety package is the DoubleR suit, which BMW Motorrad is fielding as the ambassador of its sporting brand credentials. The Venting suit, made of a summery textile in denim look, is thoroughly persuasive, while the waterproof CoverAll suit fully lives up to its name: it can be worn over a complete business outfit on the office commute. And here’s what our male and female bikers alike asked for: we are offering, with immediate effect, the classy GS Dry suit in an identical colour combination for him and her. Over in the luxury touring class, meanwhile, the Atlantis suit – made using strictly sustainable methods – continues to set the tone.

Sports-minded riders won’t ever want to take off their DoubleR boots again – except perhaps for a quick trip into town, where the relaxed RIDE sneaker is a real show-stealer. For those who like their entire kit in racing quality, there’s also the DoubleR glove. And like the suit of the same name, the Atlantis glove delivers sheer luxury.

Three entirely different jackets have a smart concept in common: to lend each leisure outfit a strong presence while remaining an out-and-out biker’s jacket. The Club leather jacket is feisty-casual, while the DoubleR and Race jackets represent BMW Motorrad’s sporty side. The new cargo-look Rider trousers can be combined with all the jackets in the collection.

Bikers can also look forward to first-class functional clothing from the 2015 BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment range. Functional undergarments, as well as the Summer and Thermo functional socks, provide excellent ventilation, are perfectly tailored to the requirements of motorcyclists and finished to the highest quality. If required, the two-piece PCM suit featuring Phase Change Material can be worn over these garments – but under the actual biker’s suit – to ensure a perfect body climate even in inclement weather. With their small pack size and light weight, the two-piece Rainlock suit and the ProRain oversuit are useful assets to keep stowed away on board. If it comes to the worst, these are absolutely dependable bad-weather companions.

BMW S 1000 RR voted MCN Machine of the Year

The incredible BMW S 1000 RR has been crowned Motorcycle News’ 2012 ‘Machine of the Year’ – the second time that the RR has taken the highest accolade in the MCN Awards. The RR also won the ‘Best Sportsbike Unlimited’ award for supersports machines with engines of any capacity.

The 2012 ‘Machine of the Year’ honour is an unprecedented fifth MCN Award for the S 1000 RR. Previous accolades include the 2010 ‘Machine of the Year’ and ‘Sportsbike over 751cc’ awards in its first year, as well as the 2011 ‘Best Sportsbike over 601cc’ award and this year’s ‘Best Sportsbike Unlimited’ title.

Praising the S 1000 RR, Motorcycle News said: “The incredible and class-redefining BMW S 1000 RR has once again scooped the Machine of the Year crown. It’s the second time the staggeringly capable superbike has won the award. BMW entered the hardest class in the world and led it at the first attempt in 2010. It scarcely seemed possible to improve on the original, but do it they did. MCN hailed the 2012 model as being as great a leap over the outgoing bike as the first S 1000 RR was over the Japanese competition.”

In addition, the BMW K 1600 GT has won the coveted ‘Tourer of the Year’ award for the second consecutive year; which itself took the title from BMW’s lauded R 1200 RT in 2010. The K 1600 GT and GTL variant have been a big sales success, re-emphasising BMW Motorrad’s dominance of the touring sector.

Explaining the K 1600 GT’s second consecutive category honour, MCN said: “BMW’s six-cylinder tourer is the stuff of concept model fantasies and boyhood dreams. With the performance of a sports car and the comfort of a Range Rover it’s just as special in real life. 160bhp, 24 valves, those corona headlamps and every extra you can think of, many of them included as standard, the imposing K 1600 GT continues to set the standard for trans-continental cruising.”

Judged and presented by Motorcycle News, the UK’s best-selling motorcycle publication, the annual MCN Awards recognise technical innovations, outstanding motorcycles and sales success within the industry.

Adrian Roderick, BMW Motorrad General Manager, said: “It’s a real endorsement for the UK’s biggest motorcycle publication to confirm that the S 1000 RR and the K 1600 GT are still the undisputed kings of their respective classes.

“To be recognised as the leader in two vital sectors, one which BMW Motorrad has been at the forefront of for decades, and one which it has entered and dominated immediately, proves that the pioneering work of BMW continues to pay off.

“With motorcycles like the K 1600 GT and S 1000 RR we are pushing the boundaries of innovation and performance for riders; while models such as the high-tech HP4 with semi-active suspension, and the C evolution electric maxi-scooter, represent the future for BMW Motorrad and of motorcycling itself.”

The new BMW R 1200 RS – a new dimension in sports touring.

BMW Motorrad and the legendary RS production bikes – a model badge that continues to symbolise travel and sport in equal measure. In 1976, the R 100 RS became the first mass-produced motorcycle in the world to come with a full, frame-mounted fairing that had been developed in the wind tunnel. As the consummate all-rounder for both travelling and sporting deployment, it established the sports tourer segment, as it has been known ever since. With the arrival of the new R 1200 RS, BMW Motorrad is continuing this long tradition by unveiling a sports tourer powered by a flat-twin engine that succeeds in transposing the all-round qualities of the original BMW RS concept into the modern day to stunning effect. Whether darting along country roads, revelling in its dynamic performance with a passenger on board or going on a long touring holiday – the new R 1200 RS takes sports touring to a whole new and truly thrilling level.

Meaty, mightier boxer engine for dynamic sports touring.

The flat-twin boxer engine on the new R 1200 RS is the same DOHC drive unit that already powers the R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure as well as the R 1200 RT and the new R 1200 R. It produces 92 kW (125 hp) at 7,750 rpm and develops its peak torque of 125 Nm (92 lb‑ft) at 6,500 rpm. Compared to the engines on the GS, GS Adventure and RT, torque has actually been increased slightly at low revs. The exhaust gases are routed through a 2-in-1 exhaust system with a rear silencer that is steeply angled for dynamic effect. A modified airbox, newly shaped air intake snorkels and a centrally positioned radiator all lend themselves to a slender, sporty and dynamic-looking front silhouette.

ABS, ASC and two riding modes as standard. Riding mode Pro with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) as an optional extra.

For optimum adaptation to the rider’s individual needs, the new R 1200 RS already comes equipped as standard with the two riding modes “Rain” and “Road”. Besides ABS, the standard specification also includes Automatic Stability Control (ASC) for increased handling safety when accelerating. And, with the optional Riding mode Pro feature, the new R 1200 RS also adds Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) with banking detection as well as two extra riding modes – “Dynamic” and “User” – to its technical repertoire.

Tubular steel bridge frame with engine as a self-supporting element. Wheel suspension using upside-down telescopic fork and EVO Paralever.

A new tubular steel bridge frame incorporating the flat-twin engine as a self-supporting element was purpose-developed for the new R 1200 RS. With an upside-down telescopic fork at the front and EVO Paralever at the rear, the wheel suspension adopts the classic chassis technology of dynamic sports tourers, but updated in typical BMW Motorrad fashion. Excellent steering precision, directional accuracy, neutral handling and braking rigidity were all a top priority when configuring the chassis. All while never losing sight of the overriding objective for the new R 1200 RS of creating an exceptionally dynamic RS model for the keen rider, whose design language has been derived from the S 1000 RR superbike.

Latest-generation Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) for ideal riding dynamics in any situation.

Opting for the latest generation of the electronically controlled suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) takes the dynamic riding experience to even greater heights. With its two damping settings, “Road” and “Dynamic”, Dynamic ESA enables the rider to enjoy unprecedented levels of handling safety, performance and comfort, as the damping is automatically adapted to the prevailing riding conditions to suit the riding situation and the manoeuvres being carried out.
Multifunctional instrument cluster with analogue speedometer, on-board computer and a wealth of information.

Even the instrumentation of the new R 1200 RS takes a quantum leap into a new sports touring era. The speed is displayed in traditional fashion by an analogue speedometer, but there is also a TFT display for showing a wide array of information.

Sporty design with dynamic proportions. Two colour and finish variants, each with their own character.

The BMW Motorrad RS models have always enjoyed a reputation for being the perfect all-rounders. The new BMW R 1200 RS fuses these credentials with both sharp performance and a sporty, dynamic design. The aerodynamically styled semi-fairing with twin headlights forms the “face” of the new BMW R 1200 RS and makes the fusion of tourer and sports machine plain to see. The dynamic proportions, with the low-set front and the delicately styled tail jutting up at the rear, give the bike a slight wedge shape and leave no doubt as to its sporting prowess, along with its many other talents. Two colour and finish variants each underline the powerful character of the new R 1200 RS, but in their own individual way. This results in a choice of two different styling variants: the classically sporty basic colours Lupin blue metallic / Light grey metallic and the sporty and exclusive “Style 2” variant in Granite grey metallic matt.
The new BMW R 1200 R – the boxer roadster for the keen rider.

BMW Motorrad and the roadster with the flat-twin boxer engine – it’s a partnership that has kept enthusiasts enthralled ever since the arrival of the R 32 some 91 years ago, during which time the roadster has come to symbolise the ultimate in unadulterated motorcycling pleasure. And especially so when the propulsive power stems from the classic boxer engine with its inimitable character and glorious sound. From cruising along serenely, to powering down country roads, to touring with a passenger and luggage, the boxer-engined roadster models from BMW Motorrad have always made for the ideal partner. The new R 1200 R upholds this tradition of comfort, dynamism and touring capability, at the same time as putting a new slant on the alluring blend.

Meatier and mightier boxer engine for dynamic riding pleasure.
The flat-twin boxer engine on the new R 1200 R is the same DOHC drive unit that already powers the R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure as well as the R 1200 RT and the new R 1200 RS. The exhaust gases are routed through a 2-in-1 exhaust system with a dynamic-looking, steeply angled rear silencer. A modified airbox and newly shaped air intake snorkels, as well as a centrally positioned radiator, all lend themselves to the slender front silhouette to which all roadsters aspire.
The BMW Motorrad boxer roadsters have always enjoyed a reputation for being the perfect companions for everyday use.
Excellent weather and a superb atmosphere at the biggest BMW Motorrad party in 2014. What you missed if you stayed at home.

Anyone who has been to the BMW Motorrad Days at least once is familiar with the basic atmosphere: by day there is a great celebration of motorcycling and at night people on the same wavelength simply celebrate life itself - and both parts are as relaxed and open-minded as is typical of the very best motorcycle parties. This year there were once again some 40,000 two-wheel fans present in Garmisch - the same figure as for the record year 2013. There was simply something to suit every mood and every kind of motorcycle culture. Those with a rockabilly hairstyle went to see the rock 'n' roll bands playing at the Motodrom in the evening. Those in search of party music found it in the beer tent. Those who prefer things to be simple went to see Byron play his guitar by the camp fire.

The trend towards motorcycling as a lifestyle - already clearly in evidence at Hausberg last year - was even more pronounced this time round, with Ace Café, Motodrom and some great BMW conversions reflecting a richly varied motorcycle culture. And in spite of the fact that the show rate at the Motodrom was increased to one every half hour, the shows were full every time.

Old school

"You see there's a growing awareness of this kind of authentic phenomenon", said Motodrom operator Donald Ganslmeier. "At some point the television gets boring: here spectators can watch at close quarters and see something truly spectacular. I hope we'll be able to come again next year."

Mark Wilsmore of Ace Café London would like to come back in 2015, too: "The ride from Glemseck to Garmisch was fantastic: excellent roads, perfect weather. I made sure I brought by rain things with me from London, but I never used them. I hope things work out this way next year: it was a great excuse to have fun."

New high tech

Mark rode a BMW R nineT on the run from Glemseck - a bike which suited him to a tee both visually and in terms of riding. Guests were able to test ride the nineT as well as all the other current BMW models, but for those who missed out due to the huge interest there was a high-tech solution - the nineT simulator: Oculus Rift VR goggles, headphones, a ventilator and a BMW R nineT to sit on provided such a realistic ride in a 3D film that the user would sometimes hang out into the arms of the onlookers. "This would be great for virtual test rides at dealerships during the winter," said a BMW helper at the simulator. Or to put it in the words of an 11-year-old test rider: "Again!"

The BMW Concept Roadster was featured on the first floor of the BMW Motorrad exhibition - a show bike that is designed to point the way forward to future BMW roadsters. "It's a very reduced bike with the masses centred above the front section - just as a roadster should be," said Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad. "You couldn't actually get this machine approved for road registration, but it's not all fantasy. Certain details may well turn up in future serial production motorcycles."

Meet and greet

It's worth keeping your eyes open at the BMW Motorrad Days because there are always a number of special guests who make the trip out to Hausberg. This year's celebrities included:

Michael Dunlop, who secured three victories this year at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy on this BMW S 1000 RR - in the Superbike and Superstock classes and in the Senior TT.

Valerie Thompson, America's fastest woman who recently set a straight-line speed record on her BMW S 1000 RR - and loved the winding rounds around Garmisch.

Katrin Matsushita, world champion in table football, who was happy to challenge table football hopefuls in the Football Tent.

Troy Corser, two-times superbike world champion, pole position record-holder, BMW Motorrad brand ambassador and development rider involved in the success of the BMW S 1000 RR
Roland Sands, designer, who brought along a converted BMW R nineT - the superb BMW Concept Ninety was there again, too.

Jolandie Rust, adventurer, author, long-distance cyclist and motorcyclist, who rode around the entire continent of Africa on her own on a BMW F 650 GS Dakar – covering a total of 45,000 kilometres!
Ryan Pyle, multiple award-winning photographer, TV presenter, film-maker and author, who rode through China with his brother on two BMW F 800 GS, covering a distance of 18,000 km.

Alena Gerber, model, presenter and motorcyclist, who demonstrated in the Event Arena that there are more alternatives to black than you might assume when it comes to motorcycle clothing.

Makani Terror, piercer, model, living tattoo art canvas, who presented popular merchandising articles on her own body.

René Changuion, brand ambassador for BMW South Africa, who lives out the connection between motorcycling and Christianity.

Hannes Jaenicke, actor, who comes to Garmisch every year even though he lives in the USA. He offered a tour for women only.

Over 80 exhibitors demonstrated impressively how diverse the BMW universe actually is.

40,000 motorcycle fans, pillion passengers, riders, master mechanics - and wannabes. It wouldn't have been possible without you. You are the party.

BMW K 1300 R.

As of model year 2015, the BMW K 1300 R will be available in the following paint finish:

Sapphire black metallic/ Black satin gloss

The previous paint finish Racing red / Sapphire lack metallic is no longer available.

BMW C evolution.

For increased comfort, the innovative electrically powered scooter BMW C evolution can be fitted with a comfort seat (option) as of model year 2015. This is also available as a special accessory for retrofitting.

Keyless Ride new for R 1200 GS / GS Adventure, R 1200 RT and
K 1600 GT / GTL for maximum user-friendliness.

For the first time, the BMW Motorrad Keyless Ride System now optionally replaces the conventional ignition lock in the R 1200 GS / GS Adventure, the R 1200 RT and the K 1600 GT / GTL. This means that it is no longer necessary to use a regular key. Unlocking and locking of the steering lock, ignition, fuel filler flap and storage compartments (R 1200 RT and K 1600 GT / GTL) is carried out using a transponder integrated in the key. The key can therefore remain in the rider's clothes, for example.

As soon as the key is located within the vehicle reception area (distance < 2 metres), the steering lock can be briefly unlocked after successful authentication by briefly pressing the button. The steering lock is locked by keeping the button pressed down and placing the handlebars in end position. The ignition is activated by briefly pressing the button or keeping the button pressed down after releasing the steering lock. The ignition is switched off by means of a short or long press of the button. To open the fuel tank, the lever of the fuel filler flap is simply raised. The fuel filler flap can be opened when the motorcycle has been electrically unlocked. The fuel tank is closed by simply pressing the fuel filler flap shut. The alarm system (DWA) is automatically activated when the ignition is switched off and the steering lock is closed, as soon as the key leaves the reception area. However, the alarm system can also be activated manually.

Shift Assistant Pro for gear shifts virtually without torque interrupt as a new special equipment feature for the R 1200 GS / GS Adventure.

The Shift Assistant Pro enables the rider to shift up and down without activating the clutch or throttle valve in the relevant load and engine speed ranges, giving the rider additional comfort as well as increased dynamic performance. Most shifts can be carried out using the shift assistant; one exception here is setting off, for example.

When accelerating, the throttle valve no longer has to be closed for shifts, so propulsion power is virtually constant without torque interrupt. When decelerating and shifting down (throttle valve closed), the engine speed is automatically adapted by means of double-declutching. Gears are engaged as usual by means of the gear pedal. Shift time is significantly reduced as compared to a gearshift using the clutch. However, the Shift Assistant Pro is not an automatic transmission, it simply provides gear shift support. When the Shift Assistant Pro is used for gear shifts, the cruise control is deactivated for safety reasons.
Gentlemen...Queen of Speed Valerie Thompson is making a return to Garmisch, Mattie Griffin is to substitute for the injured Chris Pfeiffer, and the ladies and gentlemen of the Ace Cafe are travelling in convoy from Glemseck to Garmisch to attend the 14th BMW Motorrad Days event.

The biggest motorcycle party of the year awaits in Garmisch-Partenkirchen this coming weekend from 4 to 6 July. BMW Motorrad is hosting a free warm-up on Thursday 3 July at the BMW Museum. Important points for the few days in the run-up to this year’s event:
...start your engines.

Inevitably, because of the great Alpen Roads around the mountain resort, the resounding answer to the question “How do I get to Garmisch” for most visitors is “By motorbike”. However, the choice of travelling companion is still to be made and anyone travelling from or through Stuttgart and its environs can join the second BMD run organised by the Ace Cafe London from Glemseck to Garmisch.

The group is meeting on Friday morning at the Glemseck. Departure is scheduled for 9 a.m. preceded by an optional break with fellow riders. As was also the case last year, the ride is to be led by Mark “Ace Face” Wilsmore, who runs the Ace Cafe in London. This time he will be riding a BMW R nineT. He will be ably supported by Germany’s ace standard-bearer, Hans-Peter Rütten on his red twin cylinder boxer. “We had so much fun on our Ace Cafe-Run at the BMW Motorrad Days last year that we simply had to do it again,” says Hans-Peter. “Just like last year, it doesn’t matter what kind of bike you ride – what matters is taking part.” BMW Motorrad will be on hand to share out free “BMD Run 2014” T-shirts as long as stocks last. For a map of the route and further details see: www.acecafelondon.de

The Wild Irish

Regular BMW Motorrad Days entertainer Chris Pfeiffer has sustained a motocross injury and therefore, for the first time ever, he will be unable to perform his mad-cap wheelies in Garmisch. However, he has found a worthy substitute in Irishman Mattie Griffin, who will use his BMW F 800 R to demonstrate why his friend Chris Pfeiffer has entrusted the entertainment duties to him.

“It’s a pity that Chris can’t perform at the BMW Motorrad Days,” says Mattie, “but his injuries are taking longer to heal than originally expected. Chris knows better than most that you’ve got to be 100 percent fit in order to perform stunts like this. He calls me regularly to tell me what to expect in Garmisch.” Mattie has wanted to visit Garmisch for some time and in 2014 “a dream is coming true” for him. You can see a preview of his tricks at: www.mgstuntriding.com Mattie will also perform at a warm-up show on Thursday in Munich.

The Queen of Speed

The fastest woman in America, Valerie Thompson, is returning to Garmisch once again this year because she enjoyed last year’s event so much: “I’m really looking forward to coming back again because a had a wonderful time last year. Everyone was so hospitable and inviting that I felt right at home. The landscape is very different from anything I had ever seen before and the country roads are just fabulous.”

Valerie comes from Arizona, an area of long, straight roads. Maybe that’s why she was attracted to the Drag Strip, where she recently set a new record in the Modified Class at the Ohio Mile on a BMW S 1000 RR, reaching a speed of over 333 km/h. She adds: “We’re sure that this motorcycle will break another few records this year.” There is just one thing shoe-fan Valerie is not so sure of: “I own 20 pairs of dancing shoes. My most difficult decision will be choosing the ideal pair for the best party in Germany!” You can discuss shoes and record-breaking motorcycles with Valerie in Munich on Thursday and then for the whole weekend in Garmisch.

A Taste for Adventure

In September for the fourth time, we will see the best GS riders of the world on the international GS Trophy in Canada. However, prior to this, they can test their prowess in preparation for this friendly competition on their own GS bike in Garmisch, as a Taster Trophy event is to be held. In the Event Area and in the Enduro Park, the brave riders will compete in teams in front of the crowd, performing tasks involving navigation, roadbook operation, technical understanding and, of course riding challenges. The randomly selected three-man teams will also have to prove that they can work together effectively.

GS fans should not miss this high-powered event, particularly the final, to be held on Saturday between 4.30 and 5:30 pm. As well as the applause of the spectators, the winners will also each receive a BMW Enduro helmet.

King of the Mountain Course
In the context of the “90 Years of Championships and Titles” in the Classic Tent, we should congratulate Michael Dunlop for his hat trick: at this year’s Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man he not only won the second Supersport race, but also, most importantly, the Superbike race, the Superstock race and the Senior TT, all three on a BMW S 1000 RR. “Beforehand, many people asked whether it was possible to win the TT on the BMW. I think I have answered that question clearly enough,” said Michael, speaking to the IOM local racing paper “TT News”. Michael will appear at the BMW Motorrad tent on Saturday afternoon, when he will accept congratulations and explain his choice of line over the Ballaugh Bridge.
The BMW Motorrad Days event is not like the weather - it doesn’t just happen. A team of dedicated people work to ensure that this party runs smoothly. “I am speaking for the entire Motorrad Days organisational team when I say that we are looking forward to seeing the greater biking community in Garmisch again very soon,” says Svenia Ohlsen, project manager for BMW Motorrad Days.

Svenia continues: “A team with more than 30 members has been working for many months to make the Motorrad Days 2014 a real highlight and there will be over 250 helpers at local level to make our plans a reality. I can promise our fans that this year's event will be another weekend full of music, great shows and, of course, thousands of motorbikes and riders. To those who have never been to BMW Motorrad Days before I would say – whatever kind of bike you ride, Garmisch is a really worthwhile experience. Every year, the BMW Motorrad Days are a uniquely different experience.”
